7 Tips for Long-Term Preservation of Ink

Time:2025-09-22 Views:0
The viscosity and drying property of ink are particularly sensitive to changes in environmental temperature. As the temperature rises, the viscosity of the ink decreases and the drying speed relatively speeds up. Conversely, the viscosity of the ink increases and the drying speed slows down.

In addition, environmental humidity also affects the drying property of ink. Generally speaking, it is advisable to control the temperature in the printing workshop at 18 to 25 degrees Celsius and the humidity at 55% to 65%.

Methods to extend the shelf life of ink:

1. The remaining ink after printing must be sealed and stored in a dark place so that it can be reused in future production. Before reusing, it must be filtered through a filter screen of 100 mesh or more, stirred thoroughly, and then mixed with new ink for use.

2.In some northern regions, the winter climate is extremely cold. It is necessary to prevent ink from being stored outdoors to avoid the ink from gelling at low temperatures. If the ink gels, it can be transferred to a warehouse with a higher temperature or placed in hot water to restore the insoluble substances to their original state.

3. In the storage and management of ink, the principle of "first in, first out" should also be followed, that is, the ink purchased first should be used first to prevent its application from being affected due to excessive storage time.

4. The ink is best sealed to prevent dust. A large number of dust particles or various impurity particles are very likely to fall into the ink tank or adhere to the surface of the label material, thereby affecting the printing quality.

5. Safety comes first. When storing ink, it should be kept as far away from fire and heat sources as possible to prevent accidents.

6. It is best to maintain a constant temperature in the ink warehouse, and the temperature difference from the printing workshop should not be too significant. If the temperature difference between the two is large, the ink should be placed in the printing workshop in advance. This not only helps to stabilize the performance of the ink but also ensures the high efficiency of production.

7. Ink also has a certain shelf life. If it is stored for too long, various components in the ink formula may disintegrate and precipitate. Therefore, ink should not be retained for a long time. Generally, a retention period of about one year is appropriate; otherwise, it may affect the printing quality and even cause printing malfunctions.
