5 Tips to Solve the problem of color difference in printing, no worries about orders

Time:2025-08-02 Views:16
1. Control the printing color difference from the color sample and color card

The source of the printing color comes from the color sample provided by the customer. If the color sample is not taken accurately, the carton factory cannot guarantee that the printing color is consistent with the customer‘s requirements. After taking the color sample from the customer, the carton factory should compare it with the same color sample through printing proofing, and at the same time determine the printing color with the customer and set the upper and lower limits of the printing color. After the color samples are formulated, the carton factory must strictly ensure that they are kept by designated personnel. Color samples and color cards should be replaced every three months to maintain long-term consistency in hue, lightness and saturation. Comment: This is conducive to maintaining consistency with the customer‘s requirements in terms of color. The carton factory can obtain accurate printing color requirements and can rationally control the printing color.

2. Control the color difference in printing from the ink and water

In the actual printing process, it is necessary to control well the two major characteristics of ink and water: viscosity and PH value. When making samples, confirm the viscosity and PH value of the ink. After the customer confirms, when producing again, conduct inspections based on the viscosity, PH value and fineness of the sample ink. At the same time, stir the ink evenly before putting it on the machine and install an ink stirring pump on the ink supply system. If the ink is not stirred for a long time, the resin in the ink will settle. Once settled, the color of the ink will darken. Therefore, adding an ink stirring pump is beneficial for controlling the viscosity of the ink. Comment: The key to ink control lies in data recording. By using data values to control ink color and employing ink stirring pumps to regulate ink viscosity, the resin within the ink can flow, thereby enhancing the ink‘s fluidity. This is one of the necessary conditions for maintaining consistent printing colors on cartons.

3. Control the color difference in printing from the machine speed

The speed of the printing press is a very crucial point. For instance, when the speed is 70 sheets per minute compared to 180 sheets per minute, there will be a significant difference in the printed colors. Because the rubber rollers of the printing machine come in different heights, the speed varies, and so does the vibration of the equipment. The vibration of the equipment also causes differences in the ink application between the rubber rollers. When the ink application is large, the printed color will become darker. Therefore, the vehicle speed during machine adjustment should not differ too much from that during normal production. During the production process, it is necessary to maintain a uniform printing speed. Comment: The printing speed is uneven, which may result in some parts of the same batch of orders having darker printing colors while others have lighter ones. The occurrence rate of such situations in carton factories is still relatively high. Therefore, it is best for carton factories to set corresponding printing test machine speeds and production speeds based on the characteristics of the equipment.

4. Control the printing color difference from the printing pressure

To achieve color consistency within the same batch of orders, printing pressure is also an important factor that needs to be controlled. Because excessive or insufficient printing pressure also directly affects the color change in printing. Printing pressure consists of two aspects: one is the contact pressure between the anilox roller and the printing plate, and the other is the contact pressure between the printing plate and the cardboard. Therefore, to control the consistency of printed colors, it is necessary to maintain stable and uniform printing pressures throughout the printing process. Comment: The impact of printing pressure on color is not the main cause, but it can indirectly affect the characteristics of the printed color. It is recommended that the control of printing pressure be a bit lighter.

5. Ensure that the anilox roller is clean to control the color difference in printing

In addition to doing well in the above four points, it is necessary to ensure that the anilox rollers of each printing unit are cleaned thoroughly before printing. If the cells of the anilox roller are clogged, it will affect the uniformity of ink transfer, and the printed graphics and text will have uneven colors.
