What is the difference between four-color printing and pantone color printing? When should I print with pantone colors?

Time:2024-09-02 Views:226
1.Four-color printing

Four-color printing is overprinted with CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) four-color printing you need. In popular terms, that is, the use of these four colors of different superposition to get the color you need, as long as the color has a gradient are four-color overprint out, four-color printing is superimposed with dots, using a magnifying glass can see different color dots.

2.Pantone color printing

Pantone color printing refers to the use of yellow, magenta, blue, black ink other than four color inks to copy the color of the original printing process. In packaging printing, pantone color printing process is often used to print large area of background color. Pantone color printing is a single color, no gradient, the pattern is ground, and the dot is not visible with a magnifying glass. (In general, pantone color printing costs slightly more.)
3.What products must use the four-color printing process

To reflect the nature of colorful color changes in the way of color photography photographs, painter‘s color art works or other screens containing many different colors, due to the requirements of the process or for economic benefits, must be through the electronic color separation machine or color desktop system scanning color separation. It is then reproduced using a four-color printing process.

4.What kind of products will use pantone color printing

Part of the packaging product or book cover, picture book cover is often composed of uniform color blocks of different colors or regular gradient color blocks and text, these color blocks and text can be separated by the use of four primary color ink overprinting, can also be deployed pantone ink, and then in the same color block only a certain pantone ink. In the comprehensive consideration of improving the printing quality and saving the number of overprints, pantone color printing is often selected. Packaging printing often uses pantone colors to print large areas of background color.

5.Pantone color printing, four-color overprinting visual effects are different

Pantone color printing color brightness is low, high saturation; The pantone color block with uniform ink color is usually printed on the pantone, and the amount of ink should be appropriately increased. When the thickness of the ink layer is large, the sensitivity of the change of the ink layer thickness to the color change will be reduced, so it is easier to get the uniform and thick printing effect of the ink color.

The color block printed by the four-color printing process is easy to change the color intensity due to the change of ink layer thickness and the change of printing process conditions. Changes in the extent of dot expansion, resulting in color changes. Therefore, the color block overprinted by the four-color printing process is not easy to obtain the uniform effect of ink color.

From the perspective of economic benefits, mainly to see whether the use of pantone color printing process can save the number of overprints. Because reducing the number of overprints can not only save printing costs, but also save the cost of pre-press production.

If the picture of a product has both a color level picture and a large area of background color, the color level picture part can be printed with four colors, and the large area of background color can be printed with pantone color.
Spot color ink refers to a pre-mixed specific color ink, such as fluorescent yellow, pearl blue, metal gold silver ink, etc., it is not overprinted by CMYK four-color, color means accurate color. It has the following three characteristics:

Each set of colors has its own fixed hue, so it can ensure the accuracy of the color in printing, thus solving the problem of color transmission accuracy to a large extent.

Field spot color generally defines color by field color, no matter how light that color is. Of course, it is also possible to Tint the pantone color to render any shade of the spot color.

The color gamut in the wide color library is so wide that it exceeds the RGB color gamut, not to mention the CMYK color space, so there is a large part of the color that cannot be rendered with CMYK four-color printing ink.
